We are a community based voluntary organisation working throughout Canterbury and the West Coast to minimise the impact of cancer on our community.Community liaison is provided by health professionals who are available to discuss your particular needs.

We offer:

  • A range of support groups
A team of trained volunteers work alongside staff to provide practical help:

Cancer Information

Cancer information is provided by qualified staff who are available to discuss your particular needs with
you.

We offer:
  • Information on any aspect of Cancer.
  • Details of services and support available to you.
  • Written Information booklets, patient information packs and fact sheets.
Our information complements that already given to you by your doctor or nurse.

Our services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. You may choose to visit or phone us or staff can visit you at home or in hospital offering care that complements the health services.

Davidson House

Provides accommodation,companionship and support for cancer patients and caregivers who are facing time away from the comfort and surroundings of their own home.Located  at 263 Cambridge Terrace in central Christchurch

Davidson House offers …

  • shared kitchens, dining and living areas
  • a comfortable lounge for indoor-outdoor

  • a restful place for day patients
  • a quiet room

  • a guest laundry with full facilities
  • off-street secure parking
  • easy walking distance to the city centre and within reasonable walking distance of Christchurch Hospital
  • transport to appointments and shopping for people who do not have their own car.

To make a booking …

The Oncology Centre at Christchurch Hospital can arrange accommodation at your request. Referrals from other health professionals, Cancer Society staff, Rural Support Group Co-ordinators and self-referrals are also accepted. Patients are not charged for accommodation.If eligible, a claim will be made on your behalf for a government subsidy. Check with your referrer or the Cancer Society. A nominal charge is made for a supporting family member or carer.
